Beyerdynamic DT 770 Review

The Beyerdynamic dt770 headphones are undoubtedly one of the most popular headphones among sound technicians, music producers, as well as broadcast users due to their excellent audio performance.

They deliver a well-balanced audio reproduction with an almost perfect mid-range, not to mention an exceptional bass that doesn’t drown out vocals and instruments.

The dt770 headphones are reputed for their durable construction, versatility, and their closed-back design does a great job preventing sound leakage.

They do offer a stable fit compared to some models and are reasonably priced for a premium pair for professional headphones.

That said, let’s dig deeper into the features and everything else that makes the DT 770 a popular choice for both professionals and casual listeners.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Headphones Review

1. Build and Design

The Beyerdynamic dt770 headphones come in two colors; black and gray. At first glance, you’ll notice the sleek yet rugged look on these large and little bulky headphones.

Their rugged appearance does give off a quality vibe and this is because they are strictly made with hard-wearing materials like the robust spring steel on the headband and dense earcup padding.

The earcup enclosures are made with high-quality and durable plastic and therefore alongside a solid metal headband, these headphones are sturdy enough to endure a couple of accidental drops without getting damaged.

Made in Germany, you can be sure that their quality build will have them resist wear and tear over a long period of regular and extensive use in the studio.

The earcups are generously cushioned so they should feel comfortable even after wearing them for extensive periods.

The dense cushioning is to ensure less pressure is exerted on your ears to prevent numbness and extreme discomfort from regular and long-term use.

The same goes for the steel-framed headband whose extra cushioning prevents the steel from crushing against your head.

The headband cushioning is removable and replaceable, so if they become less comfy after a period of use, you can simply have them replaced.

The headphones’ enclosed design makes them perfect for tracking as well as keeping sound leakage to a minimum.

The headphones are available in 3 versions; 32Ohm, 80Ohm, and 250Ohm.

Overall, the Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones appeal to professionals and music lovers not just because of their exceptional audio performance, but also because they are built to last.

A lot of users have immensely praised their superb quality.

2. Sound Quality and Noise Isolation

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones sound as good as they look. The headphones deliver excellent sound clarity combined with a powerful bass depth, and with excellent clarity in high-mids and highs.

The bass is reproduced flawlessly, which is quite impressive. The frequency response is also impressively clear and neutral.

The DT 770 has been the go-to headphones for studios and soundstages for their great audio performance that make them so good for sound monitoring.

They perform well every time while ensuring great listening comfort even for extended periods of use.

Professionals and casual listeners alike have praised their excellent sound quality as well as low sound leakage, not to mention exemplary noise isolation.

Once again, the Beyerdynamic brand has shone brightly with their powerful set of DT 770 headphones.

They are well within most people’s price range and their quality build will have them serve you for a long, long time!

Like we stated earlier, the DT 770 headphones come in 3 different versions. We are going to focus on the 80Ohm and 250Ohm versions.

Now, the 80Ohm version has slightly more bass compared to the 250Ohm version. So if you’re the kind of guy who likes a little thumping, the 80 Ohm headphones are an excellent choice.

Out of the three versions, the 80Ohm is the cheapest, which is a bonus!
Also, all the versions include a 3.5mm gold plated stereo jack with a ¼ inches adapter which makes it ideal for use with almost all headphones amplifiers.

As far as noise isolation is concerned, the Beyerdynamic headphones do a stellar job blocking out all the external distractions around you so you can focus on the recording and monitoring.

This is all thanks to their closed-back design and ample cushioning on the earbuds.

The earcups completely cover your ears so sound leakage is next to impossible.

For a German-made pair of headphones, the Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones deliver as expected.

And judging from the number of positive reviews and customer feedback, it’s easy to see why the Beyerdynamic line has survived in the game for so many years.

3. Comfort, Fit, and Stability

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones are undeniably comfortable with a stable and secure fit.

Both the headband and ear cups surround your head and ears without applying too much pressure, thanks to the generous padding on both parts.

In addition to the generous padding, the earcups are also covered with a soft microfiber fabric that feels soft and comfy on the ears.

One of the best comfort features of the DT 770 headphones is the detachable headband cushioning.

You definitely won’t find this in most headphones, so we have to give it up to Beyerdynamic for thinking outside the box.

This simply means that once the headband cushioning wears off, all you have to do is replace it instead of throwing the entire pair of headphones away.

The moment the headbands start becoming uncomfortable, ditch the old padding and replace it with a more comfortable one.

Despite feeling solid, these headphones are surprisingly lightweight and therefore won’t exert too much pressure on your head.

Being lightweight also means you can stash them inside your bag and you won’t even feel the extra weight.

Now, like most headphones, the dt770 headphones may not be suitable for sports, workouts, and other highly physical activities like running or jumping.

Of course, they do offer a stable and secure fit for professionals and casual listeners, but unfortunately, the super large earcups will most likely slide off your ears during intense physical activity.

About their breathability, the DT 770 headphones have excellent airflow within the earcups.

This is despite their closed-back over-ear design that is often less breathable compared to in-ears and on-ears headphones designs.

They won’t make your ears sweaty on a hot afternoon and since they are not suitable for sports or workouts, they should be pretty comfortable to wear all day long.

Also included is a practical single-sized cable that allows you to easily wear and remove the headphones frequently without the cable getting in the way.

Overall, the Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones are a perfect choice for professionals and casual listeners who often have long listening sessions.

They provide plenty of comforts and a good amount of airflow and are also great at reducing pressure and discomfort in the head and ears.

4. Storage and Portability

Because they are large-sized and a little bit bulky, the DT 770 headphones can be a hassle to carry around without a bag or pouch.

Although they are relatively compact, unfortunately, the earcups do not lay flat or fold. They won’t fit into your pockets but you can easily slide them into your bag.

Fortunately, they come with a simple yet strong pouch that will protect your headphones against minor scratches as well as water exposure.

On the flip side though, the pouch won’t offer the much-needed protection against accidental drops or impacts, as well as high-pressure water sprays or jets.

It would have been a good idea to include a hard-shell protective casing as it has been proven to do a much better job protecting headphones against damage.

What We Don’t Like About the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Headphones
Honestly speaking, these German-made headphones are totally on another level when it comes to sound quality, durability, and comfort.

However, we feel the headphones lack some essential features like wireless capability, Bluetooth, as even Microphones.

We understand that these are some of the most important features that most users look for so you might be a little bit disappointed that these headphones lack some of these.

All the same, it’s understandable that the headphones are primarily made for studio use, so these features may not play a big role in tracking and monitoring.

Still, it wouldn’t hurt to have these features since the headphones are also adored by casual listeners.

Some users also feel the headphones are a little bit bulky. However, this has not been a major concern since its normal for headphones with extra-large ear cups, steel headbands, and cable to weigh an extra few ounces.

Also, we would have preferred a protective case for storing the headphones instead of a pouch.

These headphones don’t come cheap and a few accidental drops during transit or storage might cause irreversible damage.

Protective cases don’t just protect headphones against drops/impacts- they also shield them against water exposure.

Other than these few setbacks, the Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones are quite the deal especially if you compare their build and sound quality to most of their competitors in the market.
